Bright & Clean Turkish Inspired Bedroom Makeover
I was recently invited by the folks over at Wayfair to spruce up my bedroom and they very kindly gifted me a few pieces to help transform my bed area. It's always been a goal of mine to create a calm and clean atmosphere in my bedroom without losing any of my personality in the mix. The goal for my bed was to introduce Middle Eastern pattern and textiles with a hint of Mid-Century Modern style that runs through the rest of my flat.
I suppose the general look of the room is quite a mish mash of styles, there's a bit of whimsey from my collection of twee ceramic animals and a touch of the handmade with my DIY chalk painted furniture (blog post on how I did that here). To make the room even more eclectic there are also some more bohemian elements in the room which makes for a naturally relaxing vibe. I adore Turkish textiles and I wanted a way to introduce more of that lovely exotic texture and pattern into the room.
Before the makeover the bed was pretty dull looking and quite beige, I wanted to brighten up that area and add a touch of luxurious comfort with some more blankets and cushions. With a brand new squishy duvet and soft pillows I now have a bed that I can't wait to climb into! The room is now the perfect place to snuggle up and watch old movies in.
I wanted the base of the bed to be white with a hint of colour and I love the subtle duck egg blue border on the sheets. To bring in more of that Turkish villa style I picked out a round vintage style cushion and a soft chevron blanket to layer on top of my tartan wool one. Layering up cosy elements on a bed adds depth and interest, I also love to mix patterns this way. I already had a few cushions that I bought whilst I was in Turkey, they're actually made from vintage carpets! I also made up the large cushion the centre out of an old arran wool sweater to add even more texture.
I love how this makeover has transformed the bedroom into a really airy space with hints of Middle Eastern design, something that I have always wanted to achieve in this room. To read about the full makeover head over to see what I wrote for the inspiration section of the Wayfair site.
