Upcycling Project - Chest of Drawers

Hopefully you had a read of my bedroom makeover post from the other day, if you haven’t click here. In that post I talked about how I painted one of the walls a pale pink and the old chest of drawers sitting in front of it an inky blue to transform the room. I hope you don't mind reading about my new bedroom again but I couldn't wait to show you this lovely corner.

Taking inspiration from these two colours I changed this corner of the room into something that better reflected our style as a couple. Ok, so it may have taken a little bit of convincing to get Simon to think pink was a good idea but now it’s finished we both love our new bedroom. I took away a lot of the old, vintage items that didn’t really work in the space and I replaced them with some objects we had around the flat as well as some beautiful new decorative pieces from Anthropologie.

The chest of drawers look so different now! Before they were painted in a matt grey chalk paint that was looking pretty tired. I used an eggshell paint from Dulux called Venetian Crystal to give them a new lease of life and smarten things up a little. All the gorgeous drawer pulls are from Anthropologie, I chose a different pair for each drawer for a relaxed mismatched look. It was too hard to choose just one style for the whole drawer!

I also picked out a few lovely items to help style the drawers, including my new favourite cat mug by Leah Gorden, I use it everyday so I have to admit it’s not always sitting pretty on the top of the drawers. I also picked out a metallic gold planter that Simon and I are going to use to pot up a fern. A book of poetry by Emily Dickinson that I hope will give us some wedding vow inspiration and an amazing scented candle in the most gorgeous metallic gold and painterly blue pot. I picked out the small one but it’s actually huge, the scent is perfect for a bedroom too. Something I was planning on hanging above the drawers was this textured wall hanging but I actually prefer it by the bookshelf as you can see below.

I can’t believe how a small change like styling up a simple chest of drawers can make to a room. It’s really brought the whole space together and dictated the style of the rest of the room perfectly. Anthropologie is such a fantastic place for interiors inspiration I could kit out my whole flat in their lovely pieces!
