Surface Pattern Design Workshop
I just wanted to let you know that I have another date up for my Intro To Surface Pattern Design workshop at West Elm on the 6th of July at 6:30pm. Want to learn how to design a repeat pattern on your computer? If yes, this class is perfect for you. I have been working as a freelance pattern designer for over six years. I studied Surface Pattern Design at university and since graduating I have designed patterns for clients like Marks & Spencer, Tommy Hilfiger, Debenhams and Graham and Brown Wallpaper. I also run my own stationery and homeware brand www.nancy-straughan.com
This workshop is designed to give you all the technical and creative skills you need to start designing patterns on your computer, plus it will inspire and motivate you to design more often and maybe even start a career in pattern design.
What You Will Learn
Learn how to gather inspiration and create mood boards
Create custom colour palettes
Learn best practices for sketching and scanning
Learn how to make artwork from your sketches, your photographs and edit these within Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator
How to create your own repeat pattern in Adobe Photoshop
Learn where and how to transform your patterns into fabric, wallpaper, homeware, stationery and many more products
Nancy will provide you with a booklet containing all the information covered in the class.
If you have one please bring a laptop with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator installed, you can download free trials of these online. If you don't have these simply bring a notebook and jot down the information from the class to use later.
Please note to take part in this class it is preferable (but not essential) to have already scanned in some of your drawings onto your laptop. If you can't do this Nancy will provide you with digital images to work with.
