DIY Two Ingredient Play Dough (and Play Ideas)
I’m so excited to show you this super easy play dough recipe today. I was messing around with things and wondered if I could make a two ingredient dough for Peggy to play with that would take moments to make but also be fun for her. I’ve been so inspired by a wonderful book called The Joy Journal so if you like nature based play ideas get your hands on a copy.
Keep reading to see how you can make your own natural play dough.
I’m so happy about how this natural and taste safe play-dough turned out. Feel free to add fun things in like herbs, dried petals, and essential oils to make it smell amazing.

Super Easy Play Dough
Pour around a cup of flour into a mixing bowl. Slowly add your oil and mix with a spoon until it begins to come together and look like dough.
If it looks too wet add more flour and if it’s dry continue to add oil. The dough should be easy to clump together but not greasy.
Add your colouring. I used natural liquid colouring from my local supermarket. I’ve also seen powdered vegetable coloring which are very intense and long-lasting.
You can also add other ingredients like dried petals or herbs. Lavender oil is also a lovely addition but should not be eaten.
(To make this dough truly taste safe, keep things simple with no additives)
This dough will last for around a week but throw it out if it starts to look or smell off.
Told you it was easy! Now all you have to do is get a big bowl, tray or play mat down and let your kids have fun exploring the textures and building possibilities of this dough.
One more note - If you add less oil you can create something called “moon sand”, a wonderful, moldable sand that remains crumbly but can also be squished together. Experiment with things and have fun!
