My Solo Trip to Whitby and The Prettiest Photo Spots

Hello there, how’s your week going so far? This week I’m going to introduce the best areas in Whitby to take photographs. I enjoyed a wonderful solo 24 hours exploring Whitby and I can't wait to share with you all the pretty spots that I discovered.

Solo Travelling to Whitby

Before I show you my photographs from my trip and tell you exactly what I did whilst in Whitby I thought it would be nice to explain why I was there without my husband, daughter, or friends. I have never stayed overnight anywhere on my own before, and I'm well into my early 30s, so this was quite an adventure for me!

Most of you will know that I’m a professional photographer and I was commissioned to photograph a beautiful new café that had opened up in Whitby. I was invited by the interior designer and the team behind the cafe to shoot some photographs for them. As the shoot was an early start on Monday I decided to head to Whitby on Sunday morning to have a lovely little explore on my own. I was not disappointed.

Whitby’s compact size makes it the perfect place to explore on your own. The locals were incredibly friendly and I had a wonderful time enjoying the sites with my camera.

The Best Spots in Whitby to Take Beautiful Photographs

Sadly I only had a very short time in Whitby, a couple of hours in the afternoon just wasn't enough. I will most definitely be back to explore some more as I just loved this beautiful town. Here are my top places to visit if you want beautiful scenery, historical buildings, and pretty streets.

The Old Town

The first thing I did after I had dropped my suitcase off at my guest house was have a slow wander around the old town of Whitby. After crossing the bridge from the station you will find yourself in winding cobbled streets full of charming shops and alleyways. I found a really lovely pottery and I may have added a mug to my huge collection!

This is the pottery I found during my wander, such a great find.

The 199 Steps

Somewhere you must visit when in Whitby are the famous 199 steps. I really enjoyed my climb as the sea breeze and sunshine was so gorgeous up the ascent. You can expect wonderful views over the rooftops of Whitby as well as the harbor and the sea.

Pretty Streets

After my walk up the 199 steps and a lovely explore of the church and abbey at the top I wandered back down the steps to have an explore off the beaten track. I discovered a really beautiful street with white and blue houses that overlooked the sea. I also filmed a Reel for Instagram which showcases the most magical narrow alleyway leading right to the sea. You can watch the video right here on my Instagram account.

The New Town

After having my first ever solo dinner and overnight stay the next morning I was up very bright and early for my photo shoot at the café. It was so pleasant having a walk over the bridge to Whitby new town from where I was staying as not a soul was up yet. The smell of the salt from the harbor and the sound of the seagulls was just beautiful.

I snapped a photo of these sweet little boats as I loved how retro they looked as well as a rooftop photograph just before I began work. I absolutely loved my time in Whitby and there are so many other pretty streets I could've explored. I will be back!

I really hope you found this blog post useful and that you will give Whitby a visit, it really is beautiful in the summer.

I still have a lot of spots I would like to explore so I'm looking looking forward to going back next summer with Simon and Peggy.

If you're interested I also filmed a special guide over on my Instagram account. That’s a lovely little film featuring more photographs and clips from my trip. So have a watch of that and for even more places to visit.
