Modern DIY Projects and My Tips
I believe that a spot of home improvement is good for the soul, it can also increase the value of your home, equip you will new skills and sometimes it can even help you switch off from the rest of the world. I find DIY pretty relaxing and I love creating beautiful spaces for Simon and I to enjoy. We both love spending time at home so it's important that we create a space that we love. Next weekend we're planning a little bedroom makeover and we also have two chairs from the Danish brand Hay to varnish too. I can't wait to get cracking, it's safe to say that I love a bit of DIY.

I wanted to share my favourite modern DIYs from a selection of gorgeous blogs that I regularly read, there are some really wonderful ideas out there! As you can see I have a real soft spot for Scandinavian and Mid-Century interiors and my whole home has a bit of a 1960's vibe. I personally really want to try my hand at that round rope rug for our bedroom, it looks pretty simple but also incorporates the natural textures trend too.
As well as sharing my top 12 DIY projects I also wanted to talk about how to stay safe whilst you're enjoying some home improvement. Myself and the folks over at Slater & Gordon have put together a list of tips to make sure all your home improvement projects are as safe as possible and turn out beautifully.
My DIY Safety Tips
1. Wear old comfortable clothing and avoid anything that is loose fitting that could get caught.
2. Look out for lead piping. This is especially important if your house was built before the 1970's.
3. Keep and eye out for asbestos which was widely used in homes up until 1999. If you find it leave the room all call a professional to have it removed.
3. Ensure your workplace is clean and well organised. A clear toolbox and work area will make your DIY projects quicker and easier
4. If you’re working inside, make sure the room is well ventilated.
5. Wear the right safety gear. Always wear gloves, a mask and googles especially when you're using spray paint or varnishes.
6. When using power tools always make sure you're familiar with them and cut away from your body.
If you're concerned about unsafe materials that may have been used in your home I suggest booking a survey, this one off expense will put your mind at ease. Things to look out for include lead pipes and paint, mould and asbestos. Once you know your home is safe you can crack on with all the beautiful DIY projects you have planned!
The beautiful image above is a living room which has been designed by my all time favourite interior designer Emily Henderson. Maybe one day I'll live in a home that looks like that - hey I can dream! I hope you give one on the DIY projects I've included a try, I know I would love to give every single one of them a go. Enjoy your home improvement and stay safe.
